Arranging your stogies without a humidor? I have you covered; do not sweat it. Being a budget-conscious cigar enthusiast, I find those luxury humidors costing hundreds of dollars to be too costly for me. Still, my fellow smokers need not panic! After my continuous learning, I have learned some tips on how to store a cigar without a humidor. With only a few home products, you can keep your cigars fresh and ready to enjoy more easily than you would imagine.
How long will cigars last without a humidor?
Now, without a costly humidor, the question you most likely want to know is how long my sticks should last. Fantastic inquiry. The truth is your storage techniques and the temperature truly determine this. Generally, though, your cigars will stay fresh for one to three months with the correct Tupperware or makeshift arrangement. Not particularly poor!
Temperature swings and moisture loss are the two main foes of cigars without humidors. Keep them out from direct sunlight and any too-dry or damp area. Longer storage of them is achievable, but the secret is keeping the ideal temperature and humidity. Between 65 and 70°F and 65 and 70% relative humidity, aim for cool, dry surroundings. What types of containers work best for storing cigars without a humidor?
The following methods are what I often use, and the storage effects are very good
1.use an airtight plastic container or Tupperware
Using an airtight container—such as a Tupperware or ziplock bag—along with a little humidifier is among the easiest and most reasonably priced ways. Cigars store perfectly at a humidity range of 65–72%. relative humidity, which can be maintained in part with Boveda packs or a moist paper towel inside the container. Just make sure to open the container sometimes to let air flow and prevent too much moisture accumulation. For two to three months, I kept cigars using this reasonably cheap approach without problems. You may keep those stogies fresh for the sporadic celebration smoke without dropping huge bucks on a true humidor as long as you check humidity levels and routinely refresh the water source. Though long-term it’s not ideal, it gets the job done brilliantly!
2. Containers made by Pyrex Simply Store
Of course, another simple approach to keep your cigars fresh is I just have Pyrex’s Simply Store containers right here! Their locking lid and sturdy gasket make these bad lads absolutely sealed. Like a little humidor you could keep anyplace. Though you stack ’em double-decker to maximize room, most stogies fit the 10 by 9-inch measurement.
Wash and dry the container completely before stuffing your stogies inside. Adding a strip of cedar from an old cigar box also helps to control moisture and provides the flavors that aficionados for cigars enjoy. 3. Travel Humidor
Investing in a travel humidor, like those produced by reputable companies like Xikar, might be a fantastic way for a more polished portable solution. If you require temporary storage, these little humidifiers are rather reasonably priced and made to safeguard your cigars throughout travel.
4. DIY humidor
Converting a basic cooler can be a great do-it-yourself solution for cigar aficionados wishing to keep bigger collections without paying for a commercial humidor. With a few rather cheap materials, you can design a personalized humidor solution that fits your requirements.
first, grab a 40-quart (or larger!) cooler at a cheap price for abundant capacity! Scrub the inside with distilled H2O, then let it completely dry.
Then get some humidification beads, roughly half-pound or more. These cold “museum beads” help tremendously control humidity for the best cigar chilling. Go large for larger humidors since more beads equal more control!
How can I monitor and maintain proper humidity levels without a hygrometer?
To monitor the moisture levels in your homemade cigar humidor, you will also want to get a digital hygrometer; I recommend you check out Amazon because I bought the digital hygrometer I’m using from Amazon and it works great.
All you have to do is toss in your stogies, pop those humidification beads in an open box within your cooler, and let the beads work to provide the ideal 65–72% humidity cigar sanctuary. Every now and again I like to check the hygrometer to see whether we are in the sweet spot.
